The Dalhousie Privateers ROV team is a student-run team dedicated to designing, constructing, and testing an underwater remotely operated vehicle for the purposes of entering it in the Marine Advanced Technology Education (MATE) Center annual ROV competition.

One of the primary projects for the MATE Center is the organization of their annual international ROV competition. The most recent competition, held in June 2011, featured 54 teams from seven nations competing in NASA Houston's Neutral Buoyancy Lab. The competition consists of different tasks each year, always tailored to fit a theme relevant to real world marine applications. Last year's mission theme was based around the positive role that ROVs have in repairing damaged undersea oil wells.
